Body perception, dissatisfaction and quality of life in university women in Pereira, Colombia

Objective: To establish the degree of dissatisfaction and distortion of body image in university women in the municipality of Pereira, Colombia
Methods: The Standard Figural Stimuli (SFS) scale was used to identify the degree of body dissatisfaction, the SCOFF questionnaire to determine the presence of eating disorders (ED) and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale for the degree of distortion of the body. body image.
Results: It was possible to characterize socio-demographically the population under study, the mean age was 23.3 and the single marital status with a percentage of 85%, it was possible to identify the degree of dissatisfaction and distortion of the body image presented In the women who participated in the study, 24% of the women with overweight or some type of obesity, considered themselves with a normal silhouette, for which we can infer that there is a degree of distortion of the body image, it was established that the 28% of the population suffers from eating disorders and it was finally established that 71.2% of the population has high self-esteem, the remaining percentage medium and low self-esteem.
Conclusions: Multiple truly significant data were found, the results of this study lead us to consider that there is really a significant degree of dissatisfaction and distortion in the body image of many university women, because the image with which they identify differs from that of image they wish they had
