Abstract

This study addresses the impact of digital technologies on the academic and social development of children and adolescents. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of digital technologies on the academic and social development of children and adolescents in the parish of Huachi Chico, with the aim of generating recommendations that promote a balanced use of these technologies and non-digital activities in their daily lives. A mixed methodology was used, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. Surveys were conducted with students between 6 and 18 years old from various educational institutions, and descriptive analyses were performed to assess the impact of access to electronic devices and social networks on participants' interaction and learning. The results showed that a high percentage of adolescents had access to the internet and primarily used it for communication and entertainment. However, there was limited awareness of the risks associated with internet use. In contrast, students without constant access to digital technologies expressed greater concern about the risks of the digital environment. The conclusions highlight the need to promote digital literacy and balanced technology use, with particular attention to parental supervision to mitigate associated risks. Additionally, the role of digital technologies as key tools for communication and social development is emphasized, although a more secure and conscious approach to their use is necessary.
