Abstract

Introduction: In the field of health sciences education, the relationship between teacher training and the development of competencies in primary health care in university students is a key issue to ensure comprehensive and relevant training to the current demands of the health system.
Objective: To determine the relationship between teacher training and the development of competencies in primary health care in Peruvian university students of health sciences.
Methods: Quantitative, basic or pure, non-experimental, cross-sectional and correlational research.
Results: A correlation coefficient r=0.823 for the study variables, and a value of p=0.001.
Conclusions: The results support the importance of teacher training in improving different critical aspects in primary health care. The strong association with all the variables analyzed highlights that investing in teacher training can have a significant impact on the quality of services, from the personalization of care to the optimal use of resources. The stronger relationship with the family approach could indicate that training has a particularly important effect on this aspect. This result reinforces the importance of strengthening teacher training to improve professional competencies in the evaluated contexts.
